EUROPEAN BIOTECHNICA AWARD - Jury: Prof. Dr. Horst DomdeyHorst Domdey, biochemist, received his PhD from the University of Munich. He held positions at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried, the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research in Epalinges (Switzerland), the University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, and the Gene Center of the University of Munich, before he became there Associate Professor for Biochemistry in 1994.

In 1994 he co-founded MediGene, one of the first biotech companies in Germany. In 1998 he became the Managing Director of BioM, a tech-transfer, advisory and seed capital organ. In 1998 he also took charge of the Innovation Center for Biotechnology in Martinsried, a successful biotech incubator.

Since 2003, he is the Scientific Manager of the Bavarian Genome Network BayGene. He is a board member of BIO Deutschland, member of the plenum of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) for Munich and Bavaria and also member of the Committee for Industry and Research in the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).
From 2004-2005 he was the chairman of the Steering Committee of the German BioRegions.
In 2006 he was nominated as the speaker of the Bavarian Biotechnology Cluster.
